Place
saskatoon berries in a heavy pan with brown
sugar and 2 tbsp. cold water. Add cinnamon stick,
star anise and cloves to the pan and heat gently,
without boiling, until sugar is dissolved and
the berry juice runs. Cover pan and let berries
infuse over very low heat for 5 minutes. Remove
spices from the compote before serving warm
with plain yogurt (optional).
